BEING a knowledgeable follower of cricket for several decades now, I would like to say with great dismay that former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail, who was recently giving his expert opinion on PTV Sports for the Asia Cup matches, had been grossly unfair and biased in his comments throughout.

Sohail constantly ran down a few players like Shahid Afridi and Asad Shafiq as if he had some personal grouse against them, no matter how good their performance on the field was. Besides, he is forever trying to justify all the wrong, sometimes horrible, decisions of captain Misbahul Haq which smacks of bias.

Also, I wonder just how Sohail qualifies to talk about the discipline of players when he was the most indisciplined cricketer in the team. I distinctly remember how he was removed from captaincy in 1998 for misbehaving with his colleagues and so many respected Board officials for no rhyme or reason.

Later on, when he was made the chief selector, he selected the then PCB chairman Tauqir Zia’s son Junaid Zia in one of the most blatant cases of nepotism seen in this country, which also led to his ouster from the PCB.

Former great batsman and administrator Majid Jahangir Khan also reported Sohail for his misconduct at around the same period and Sohail was also removed from the panel of experts a few years ago by a reputable TV channel for bad-mouthing a fellow commentator on air.

PTV Sports, in my opinion, had done a blunder in selecting Sohail as an expert for the matches as he is biased in his conduct and opinion which is against the spirit of cricket itself.
