SIALKOT: The intra-party elections of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), on Tuesday, were postponed for an unspecified period after vandalism by some armed PTI men at the main polling station in Sialkot.

A spokesman for the PTI, Khawaja Arif Ahmed Advocate, told newsmen that the peaceful polling for inter-party elections of PTI was being held, when armed men belonging to rival PTI groups stormed into the polling station.

They reportedly took hostage workers, agents, polling staff and forcibly halted the polling there. The accused also badly tortured the polling staff and broke the furniture.

Polling remained suspended for four consecutive hours (from 12:00 p.m. to 04:00 p.m.). All the groups were not ready to restart polling there.

Meanwhile, some armed PTI men also stormed into a polling station set up at a local hotel in Uggoki where intra-party polls were also being held.

The armed accused also snatched ballot papers and ballot boxes at gun point from the polling staff and fled from the scene by firing in the air.

Khawaja Arif Ahmed Advocate said that PTI Chief Imran Khan has strongly condemned the incidents.

Imran Khan has also ordered a strict probe against the accused party workers and officials for violating party discipline and code of conduct, besides, earning bad name for the PTI.

He said that the PTI has submitted separate applications at Kotwali and Uggoki police station for the registration of separate cases against the accused.
