MULTAN, Jan 20: Traders of the Cantonment markets staged a demonstration here on Monday in protest against police failure to arrest the killers of a trader.

The protest was organized by the Anjuman Tajran, Cantonment. Participants were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the Multan police for their inefficiency.

A traders’ leader, Malik Manzoor, was shot dead by some unidentified assailants last month near his shop at Awan Chowk.

Speaking to the protesters, Anjuman president Mujeebur Rahman said traders in particular and the public in general were feeling insecure due to the police failure to maintain law and order.

Secretary-general Moazzum Waheed said 150 incidents of vehicle-theft and dacoity had occurred only in the jurisdiction of Cantonment police during the last year.

A provincial leader of Tajar Qaumi Ittehad, Mazahir Husain, said if deemed necessary, hunger strike camps would also be set up in each and every market to protest against what he termed the callous attitude of the police.
