CHAKWAL, Feb 11: On Monday, police sources described two murders that took place over the weekend, both allegedly over family matters.

The body of a woman was discovered by the Motorway, and on Sunday, a man shot his elder brother over a property dispute. Motorway police found the body of twenty-eight-year-old woman, from the village of Toba near Pind Dadan Khan, lying near Pipli village.

Her body was taken to District Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy, which, according to Investigation Officer Safdar Hussain Shah, revealed that she had been shot with a pistol on Saturday night.

Whoever killed the woman left her cellphone at the scene, and police used its saved numbers to inform her family. When they informed her husband, he told them (police) that his wife had been missing for three days.

The woman’s uncle told the police that relations between his niece and her husband, who had been married for eight years and had a five-year-old son, were sour.

Based on the allegations of the woman’s uncle, Investigation Officer Shah told Dawn that police “have registered a case against the husband and five members of his family, including three women”.

In Dhuliana village, which is in the area served by Dohman police station, thirty-year-old Zahid Mehmood shared a house with his elder brother, Khalid, 35.

Sources report that the two had a long-running dispute over the ownership of the house, and that they had a particularly harsh exchange on Sunday.

Zahid Mehmood allegedly got a 12-bore gun from his room and fired twice at his brother, killing him on the spot.

Zahid then fled the scene and has not been found.

Tanvir Azam, an investigation officer, told Dawn that a case has been registered and “the killer will be arrested soon”.
