KARACHI, Feb 9: Second-half substitute Mohammad Mujahid scored a fine goal as Pakistan recorded their second successive victory by edging Nepal 1-0 in their friendly match at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Saturday.

According to information received here, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) striker was on the pitch for just three minutes before he pounced on a defensive lapse by Nepal, beating two defenders before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong in the 65th.

An inspired substitution by coach Zavisa Milosavljevic who was happy with the result of the two-match series which Pakistan won convincingly after winning the opening match by the same score on Wednesday.

“We created more goal scoring chances and we completely dominated,” Milosavljevic told Dawn after the match. “I wasn’t happy in the first match but the boys played their best.

“We are building the team and we need competitive matches for that to happen and I’m hopeful that this will help us prepeared better for the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers [in March].”

Milosavljevic was looking forward to Pakistan’s next assignment in the Maldives where they play another couple of friendlies.

“We’re looking forward to the assignment in Maldives and we’ll look to replicate the same performances there as well,” he said.

“It is important for the confidence of the players that we keep winning.”

Zavisa was happy with the current squad but added that the door was open for any player who wants to play for the national team.

“I’m satisfied with the players I have at present and if anyone is willing to play for the national team, we’ll more than welcome them but they need to perform well before eyeing a place in the squad.”

Defeat for Nepal marked a disappointing return for their skipper Suraj Thapa in his 50th international match but they created chances to equalise and tested Pakistan shot-stopper Jaffar Khan several times.—Sports Reporter
