ATTOCK, Jan 29: The Punjab government has approved Rs5,477.4 million under the Provincial Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2012-13 for 19 development schemes in the Attock district.  

The amount is more than 100 per cent higher than the allocation in the financial year 2011-12 which was Rs2,473.1 for 67 projects.

According to details provided to Dawn by Usman Ahmed Chaudhry,  the district coordination officer (DCO), out of the RsRs5,477.4, an amount of Rs3,592.1 would be spent on eight roads projects  - five new and three ongoing. Besides, four irrigation schemes would get Rs1,664.3 million.

However, health, sports, water supply sewerage and drainage and public building sectors have been allocated a meager amount of funds.

A sum of Rs106.3 million has been set aside for one health project, Rs49.7 million for one sports scheme, Rs8.121 million for one water supply sewerage and drainage project and Rs56.822 million for four public building schemes.

Strangely, no education project has been included in the ADP for the current fiscal year.

About the procedure for executing the ADP schemes, the DCO said public representatives in the district identified the development projects of their constituencies as per their priorities and requirements.

Then the concerned quarters of the Punjab government approved the cost of the projects under ADP which are executed through the provincial works department under the direct supervision of the secretary works.

The secretary is also authorised to award the contracts of the projects after fulfilling the requisite technical formalities, he maintained.

He said the district administration only facilitated the executing agencies and provided them assistance wherever it was needed.
