LAHORE, Jan 28: A protest was held after a man died of alleged police torture in D-Block, Gujjarpura, on Monday.

Protesters alleged that 25-year-old Naveed was tortured and dragged by some policemen near China Scheme. He later died in hospital around 11pm.

Civil Lines SP (Operations) Dr Farukh Raza said according to the deceased’s family some neighbors called the police after Naveed played loud music outside his house.

He said the police arrived at the scene and dragged Naveed publicly. He said neighbours claimed that Naveed was an addict and died of overdose.

The police were working on the case, he said.

shoots wife: A constable shot dead his wife and critically injured his mother-in-law following a matrimonial dispute in Muslimabad locality of Ghaziabad on Monday.

The victims’ family told police that Ameen Sajid came to their house and opened fire on his 28-year-old wife, Uzma, following a quarrel.

The firing also left his mother-in-law, Parveen, injured.

The suspect, who is currently deployed at the Civil Secretariat, fled the scene.

The injured were taken to a hospital where Uzma succumbed to her injuries.

Preliminary inquiries showed that Uzma had moved a court for separation some time ago, but her husband resisted the move and was pressing for reconciliation.

The police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case.

shot dead: A police constable was gunned down by two unidentified men in Nishtar Colony police precincts late on Monday.

A source said the victim was shot dead by robbers over resistance, but the police claimed the motive was unclear.

Nishtar Colony police said 26-year-old Sharafat Ali of Dulukalan village was returning home from Harpalke area on a motorcycle when two men on a motorbike intercepted and fired at him.

Shafarat suffered two wounds in his head and died instantly, the police said, adding officials found that nothing was robbed from the constable.

The police said the victim was posted at the Police Lines.

Suicide: A 28-year-old man was founded hung with a ceiling fan hook at an under-construction house in L-Block Phase-V of the Defence Housing Authority here on Monday.

The police initially believed that Maqsood of Bahawalpur committed suicide at the house of his master, Shahid, following unknown reasons.

The police handed over the body to the family after necessary formalities.

BODY RECOVERED: Sabzazar police recovered the decomposed body of a man in his 70s dumped in the courtyard of a house in Saidpur on Monday.

Neighbours of victim Muhammad Husain alerted the police after a stench emanated from the house.

The police rushed to the spot, broke open the lock, retrieved the body from the courtyard and shifted it for autopsy.

Preliminary police investigation showed that victim’s son Faqeer Husain, who had been missing for the last few days, was apparently involved in the murder of his father.

The police said the suspect, who is an addict, had also killed his mother some time ago.

The police shifted the body for autopsy.
