ISLAMABAD, Jan 28: Rawalpindi Falcons recovered from an 11 point first-half deficit to register an impressive 36-30 victory over Islamabad Bulls in the Falcons Invitational Basketball Tournament 2013 here on Monday.
In the other matches of the day, being played at the Sector I-8 basketball court, Eagles outplayed Raptors 41-22, Islamabad Falcons beat Islamabad Rhinos 53-46 and Outlaws defeated Islamabad Wolves 45-28.
A press release said that Rawalpindi Falcons seemed completely out of form in the first two quarters, managing just five points in 20 minutes of play.
Bulls, on the other hand, scored 16 points before the break and were looking good for a comfortable win.
The game, however, changed in the second half with Rawalpindi Falcons taking full control.
They started playing much better, scored freely and also defended well.
The winners outscored their opponents 31-14 in the last two quarters to complete a fine win.
Mahboob Ahmad-led Rawalpindi Falcons’ charge with 17 points while Shahbaz Qasim and Salman Ali collected six points each.
Irfan Ahmad (10), Sayed Mujtaba (7) and Abdul Rahman (7) were Bulls’ leading scorers.
Raptors led Eagles by two points at the end of the first quarter but struggled in the rest of the match.
Jarri Abbas was the best player in the game, scoring 17 points for Eagles.
Murtaza Shigri and Adil Khan added eight points each and Shahrukh Saleem had six.
Imran Shahid (6), Ali Saeed (5), Bassam Raza (4) and Maqsood Ahmad (4) played well for Raptors.
Islamabad Falcons continued their good run in the tournament with victory over Islamabad Rhinos.
After taking a 15-point advantage at the halfway stage, the tournament hosts relaxed a little to provide Rhinos with a glimmer of hope of staging a fightback.
Even though Rhinos outscored Islamabad Falcons 31-23, they were not able to overhaul their opponents’ first half lead.
Wajeeh Raja (10), Uzair Ahmad (9), Omer Iftikhar (8) and Javed Nawaz Bangash (8) were the top scorers for Islamabad Falcons.
Saad Aslam (14), Huzaifa Masood (14) and Khizar Ahmad (5) had a good game for Rhinos.
Outlaws comfortably beat Islamabad Wolves in the last match of the day.
Omer Malik (12), Zawen Waqar (8) and Abdul Moeed (6) played well for Outlaws.
Abdul Moeez (11), Usman Mirza (5) and Hamza Lodhi (5) were Wolves’ main contributors.
