PESHAWAR: Five civilians were reported killed when a mortar fell on a compound in the Khyber tribal region on Saturday, DawnNews reported.

At least 10 people were also injured in the incident that took place in the Tirah region in Khyber's Jamrud. The injured were rescued from the rubble by the locals.

Sources said all those killed by the mortar which was fired from an unknown direction were related to one another.

Khyber is among Pakistan’s seven tribal districts near the Afghan border which are rife with homegrown insurgents and are alleged to be strongholds of Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives.
