ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Monday, while speaking during a National Assembly session, said the government was not “delusional” to the challenges confronting Pakistan's sovereignty, DawnNews reported.

She said the government was resorting to available mechanism in response to recent ceasefire violations by Indian troops at the Line of Control (LoC).

The fragile line of control, that divides Pakistan and India, has become center of attention after the recent killings of soldiers on both sides, in one of the worst flare-ups in violence in the disputed Himalayan region in a decade.

In the past two weeks, three Pakistani and two Indian troops have died in clashes on the heavily-militarised border, drawing harsh words from both Islamabad and New Delhi.

“Pakistan acted responsibly. We suggested engaging the United Nations Military Observes Group for third party probe,” Hina Rabbani Khar told the house in a policy statement.

The foreign minister said Pakistan was committed not to escalate the situation rather it was striving to normalise it.

She said that the Indian side had provoked the situation but Pakistan showed responsible attitude that was appreciated globally.

Earlier, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali khan, while terming the government’s attitude as “apologetic,” asked Khar to present the government’s perspective on the issue in the house.

Assailing the government, Khan said India was showing aggression by giving provocative statements after killing Pakistani soldiers on its own land.

He said although war against India was not desirable, however, a firm standpoint of the nation should be presented before the world– APP/DawnNews
