KARACHI:  Two witnesses on Saturday identified the main suspect accused in the murder of a 21-year-old Shahzeb Khan in Karachi, DawnNews reported.

Shahrukh Jatoi had been arrested from Dubai and brought to Karachi two days ago, where police had extended the physical remand for Shahrukh and three other suspects till Jan 23.

He was produced before the court of a judicial magistrate for the identification parade on Saturday, where two witnesses identified him by as the perpetrator in Shahzeb’s killing.

Twenty-year-old Shahzeb, son of Deputy Superintendent of Police Aurangzeb Khan, was gunned down on the night between Dec 24 and 25 when he was returning home, along with his sister, after attending a wedding at the Country Club Apartments.

The Supreme Court  had taken suo motu notice of the murder.

Apart from Shahrukh, the other suspects in the case – Nawab Siraj Ali Talpur, 22, his brother Nawab Sajjad Ali Talpur, 21, and their servant Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, 23 – have been in police custody since Jan 7.

Shahrukh’s father, Sikandar Jatoi, who is known to be an influential businessman, was also previously arrested for allegedly helping his son flee the country. However, he was released after interrogation after police was unable to find solid evidence against him.

The apex court is scheduled to take up the case again on Jan 29.
