LAHORE, Jan 15: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the people of Pakistan will not allow any adventurist to undermine the democratic system for satisfying his own lust for power.

He said the nation faced Musharraf’s dictatorship and later the malpractices of a corrupt government continuously for 12 years and now when there were bright prospects of a public-friendly and honest government, some elements were trying to hinder the process of change through ballet.

In a handout issued on Tuesday, the CM said those who offered unconditional support to Musharraf’s government and went abroad, leaving the nation to face loadshedding, price hike and unemployment under the present government, had no right to talk about people’s problems.

Contrary to this, Shahbaz said, his party had stood by the people in difficult times and exposed the corruption of the rulers and challenged them at every forum.

He said it was the first government in the history of Pakistan that had set up camps under the scorching sun to protest against loadshedding, to share the sufferings of the people.

He said change could not be brought about through mere statements and speeches, but through practical measures.

He also claimed those trying to hinder the election process through a so-called revolution were actually afraid of success of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and its chief, Nawaz Sharif.

The CM further said people had already suffered a lot at the hands of unelected governments and those trying to derail democracy were criminals and would never be forgiven.

He questioned how a certain group with specific interests and a dubious agenda could hijack the country’s future and aspirations of its 180 million people.
