ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) of Islamabad “west” Raja Khurram Ali Khan on Tuesday directed the police to register an FIR against an MNA of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for thrashing a bureaucrat at his office.
The judge issued the orders while hearing an application of Sarwar Awan, joint secretary, Ministry of Housing and Works who was allegedly beaten up by the MNA, Ch Mohammad Tariq Anees.
Awan adopted before the court that on January 7, 2013, the MNA Anees along with his gunman came to his office and ordered him (Awan) to approve Rs100 million for a development scheme of his constituency in NA 116 Narowal-II.
“Since I am a grade-20 officer and giving approval of Rs100 million for a development scheme was beyond my mandate,” he said adding he informed the lawmaker about his inability and requested him to adopt proper channel.
According to him, the MNA instead of accepting his apology insisted Awan for giving approval of the funds but his defiant tone annoyed the lawmaker who then started beating him (Awan) in his office and threatened him of dire consequences.
After the torture, the joint secretary Awan said, he approached the police station Secretariat for registration of FIR against the MNA but the police did not register the case against Mr Anees.
An official of Secretariat police station told the court that due to some technical issues they did not register the case against the MNA.
He said the address of MNA Anees mentioned in the complaint of joint secretary Sarwar Awan was not correct and the complainant wanted to correct the address which delayed the FIR.
The court, however, directed the police official to submit a copy of the complaint of Awan on the next date of hearing.
