RAWALPINDI: The district administration has asked the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to repair streetlights and complete patchwork on roads falling on the traditional routes of the Muharram mourning processions.

A senior official of the district administration told Dawn that the district administration had decided to issue special security passes to officials and sanitary workers and other relevant employees of civic bodies who would be deployed on the traditional routes of mourning processions. He said the civic bodies had been asked to provide the lists of its workers along with their photos and ID cards.

He said that security passes would be issued by the Special Branch to sanitary workers for Muharram 7 and 10 and other district administration employees who would be deputed at mourning meetings (Majalis).

He said that three camps would be established with other relevant emergency services at Committee Chowk, Kotwali Raja Bazaar and Shah Nazar Pull. Ambulances and first aid services would be provided in these camps.

He said that district administration also directed RMC to cover open manholes on the main roads and repair faulty streetlights.
