KARACHI, Jan 9: Karachi Commissioner Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi on Wednesday assured of administrative support to the Election Commission during the house-to-house verification of voters’ list in the city.

Chairing a meeting attended by additional commissioners and deputy commissioner of Karachi, the commissioner told them that their responsibility would not be to monitor the exercise but facilitate its completion in accordance with the Supreme Court directive.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioners Kamran Shamshad and Rubina Asif besides Deputy Commissioners Sami Siddiqui (east), Mustafa Jamal Kazi (south), Dr Saifur Rahman (central) Ghanwar Ali Laghari (west).

Later, the commissioner told the media that the Karachi administration would provide human resource, vehicles and other support for the exercise.

“The door-to-door verification of the voters’ list is scheduled to be completed by Feb 22,” he added.

The commissioner said the verification of the voters list would be completed in three phases.

In reply to a question, Mr Zaidi said that each deputy commissioner of Karachi would fulfil his responsibilities as per requirements of the election commission.

He said that besides the army providing security to the personnel engaged in the verification process, Rangers, police, education department and the Karachi administration were actively supporting the election commission in its task. “Control rooms have been set up in the offices of all the district commissioners and the election commission so as to address any complaint registered during the exercise,” said Mr Zaidi.—APP
