The young and talented fashion designer Sanam Chaudhri’s Shibori-based collection Kage was unveiled at Fashion Pakistan Week held in October 2012 in Karachi.

Kage is inspired by the intricate Japanese resist dye technique and has been dubbed edgy by fashion critics, and is featured in indigo and white with influences of burnt orange, bright red and deep black.

An extension of the designer’s personal style, it essentially features Kimono jackets worn over cowl harem pants, trousers and skirts in casual and refined cotton to satin, besides bustiers, capes, wraps and Obi belts. Its flowy silhouette ensures easy-to-wear practicality along with a stylish demeanour.

A fresh and eclectic take on a foreign culture with strong traditional influences running alongside simultaneously, it reportedly elicited a standing ovation for designer Sanam Chaudhri at FPW. Set against a dark backdrop for the background, the play of colours appears even more stark and vivid, underlining the intricate thought pattern behind it all. — I.Q.
