LAHORE, Jan 5: The Punjab government regularised on Saturday the services of 2,094 contract lecturers who were appointed in 2009.

As many as 162 lecturers, mostly women, could not be regularised owing to incomplete documentation, higher education department officials told Dawn.

They claimed that the case of remaining 162 contract lecturers would be put up for regularisation soon.

Meanwhile, Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) President Dr Zahid Sheikh has congratulated the lecturers whose services have been regularised.

He also thanked Higher Education Department Secretary Dr Ijaz Munir and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for their support in regularisation of contract lecturers.

Dr Zahid Sheikh said the PPLA had invited the chief minister at the laptop distribution among PhD and M.Phil teachers serving the higher education department. The date for the ceremony will be announced soon.
