NOWSHERA, Dec 29: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council (PBC) on Saturday declared the recent election of Nowshera District Bar Association (DBA) null and void, and asked the association’s election board chairman to conduct re-election within 15 days.

In this regard, KPBC secretary Naeemuddin issued a notification, declaring that the whole election process of the DBA was against rules. It ordered the DBA election board chairman Sohail Khan to hold fresh election of the bar within 15 days, as rules were violated in the elections held on Dec 8, 2012. Malgari Wakelan and Insaf Lawyers Forum had won the election.

When contacted, a senior lawyer said that the DBA had passed a resolution in which it was decided that membership list of the PBC would not be followed, as it had done nothing for the local bar association during the 2010 flood.

Information secretary of Malgari Wakelan, Ali Haider, made it clear that the resolution was passed unanimously and a KPBC member Shaukat advocate was also present at that meeting. He said that the move was not opposed by any group of lawyers.

The Malgari Wakelan and ILF have decided to file appeal with Pakistan Bar Council against the PBC’s decision.

JI MEETING: Jamaat-i-Islami will try its best to field party candidates in all constituencies in the upcoming general elections, said Nowshera district JI amir Merajuddin while speaking at separate gatherings at Nizampur area here on Saturday.

He said after election the JI would provide basic facilities to people and ensure protection of their basic rights. However, he said that this would be possible when the people would unite against corrupt political leaders.

The JI activist alleged that rulers were busy in looting the national exchequer, while people had been facing the problems of insecurity, unemployment, loadshedding, etc.

He claimed that  government had lost credibility, as 80 per cent industrial units were closed during its five-year tenure due to loadshedding.—Correspondent
