BERLIN, Dec 27: Journalists from 26 news agencies chose three-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel as the European Sportsperson of the Year.

The Red Bull driver headed the poll released on Wednesday with 137 points — seven more than Bradley Wiggins, who earlier this year became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France.

Third place with 126 points went to two-time Olympic champion Mohamed Farah, who won the 5,000 and 10,000 metre titles at the London Olympics. The 55th poll was organised by the Polish news agency PAP. —Agencies
