I AM a student from a remote region of Balochistan and am currently enrolled in the International Islamic University, Islamabad. Recently, the Higher Education Commission announced need-based scholarship. I also applied for it.

As the candidates were required to appear for interview by his/her head of the department, I was also interviewed by the head of my department. But it is disheartening that the head of the department refused to recommend me for the scholarship just because I told him that my father was a tehsildar, though my father doesn’t have any other source of income. In fact, my father’s salary is less than the university fee.

However, my family is struggling to pay for my study. I would like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned to give second thoughts on this issue.
