NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Jan 11: More than 1,200 farmers on Saturday blocked the National Highway bypass to protest against the sugar mill owners’ noncompliance with the sugarcane purchase price fixed by government at Rs43 per 40kg.

They threatened to take control of the sugar mills if their demands were not met urgently.

The farmers adopted six resolutions, which included the demand for an end to the zoning system, and a call to appoint receivers for purchasing sugarcane at the government-fixed price.
