JHANG, Jan 11: The water supply to Faisalabad from Chiniot tehsil will not be approved without undergoing a technical survey so that it may not affect the people and farmers of Chiniot tehsil.

This decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Secretary Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa here on Saturday.

The meeting decided that work on the survey would be completed soon and due importance would be given to the opinion of the area people before reaching a final decision.

The meeting was also attended by secretaries of the local government and housing, district Nazimeen, DCOs and DPOs of Jhang and Faisalabad. Chiniot Tehsil Nazim and Faisalabad Wasa MD also attended the meeting.

ARRESTED: A Nazim of Hassan Khan union council was arrested, locked-up in jail and later released by the Massan police on late Friday.

Mohsin Khizar Bharwana was booked for taking out an illegal procession, blocking the Jhang-Sargodha Road, burning tyres and raising anti-government slogans to protest the arrest of councillor Muhammad Khan Jherki.

Bharwana, apparently una-ware of the case against him, visited the police station in connection with some other matter. On seeing him, Massan SHO Arif Bhatti informed him about the case against him and ordered a constable to send him behind bars.

The Nazim tried to convince the SHO to give him a day’s time so that he could get a pre-arrest bail, but to no avail. A few minutes later, local MPA Ghulam Ahmad Gadi reached there but he, too, failed to get him released.

The Nazim was later released late at night on the orders of the Jhang DPO.
