THE government should bar public buses, mini-buses, rickshaws and taxis from using CNG for the reasons mentioned below:

Most of the buses use substandard cylinders that are not at all suitable for CNG and can’t withstand the pressurised gas in them and often result in bursting of CNG cylinders.

A recent incident on Abul Hasan Isphani Road is reminder of this fact.

Strict vigilance is required to force such buses and mini-buses to use HDIP recommended cylinders and maintain them as required.

Buses and mini-buses are still charging the commuters fares according to the diesel rates and no relief is given to the public as a result of the Supreme Court directives of Rs30-32 reduction in per-kg price of CNG. Rickshaws and taxis are also charging exorbitant fares. The government should consider these points in deciding user-friendly price of CNG.
