LAHORE, Dec 13: The City District Government of Lahore (CGDL) announced on Thursday holding another round of a three-day anti-polio drive from Dec 17 so that 100 per cent children of up to five years old in Lahore were covered.

According to a handout, the administration sought clerics’ support to convince those parents and guardians refusing to get their children administered polio drops in the previous drives.

“We want Lahore a polio-free city in the province,” District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Amin Mengal said at a meeting at Town Hall.

“The people from all walks of life, particularly the clerics, should come forward to motivate those who are not cooperating in the campaign.”

Adviser to Chief Minister for Health Khwaja Salman Rafiq, MNA Pervaiz Malik, MPA Shahbaz Bhatti, Khwaja Basharat Karbalai, Mufti Saifullah Khalid, Qari Syed Abdul Qadir, WHO’s Dr Asif, Dr Imran Naqvi, Syed Mohsin Gilani, Syed Waqar Naqvi, Syed Khurram Naqvi, Maulana Abdul Khubair Azad and Haji Azam were present.

Clerics on the occasion assured the administration of their support in the drive.

At another meeting, the DCO urged the owners of private schools to cooperate with polio teams in getting children administered drops at their schools. “The owners who do not cooperate with polio teams will be arrested and their schools will also be sealed,” he warned.

WALL CHALKING: The CDGL on Thursday sought action against those town officials who failed to fully remove wall chalking in their respective town's revenue limits.
