NAGPUR (India), Dec 11: England Twenty20 captain Stuart Broad is a doubtful starter for the two T20 Internationals against India later this month after suffering a recurrence of the heel injury on Tuesday.

The pace bowling all-rounder was sent for a scan on his left heel. Broad, also England’s Test vice-captain, first had a scan on his injury during England’s second tour match in Mumbai last month, but he went on to play in the first two Tests before being dropped.

He was not a part of the playing XI in the third Test at Kolkata where England won by seven wickets to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series.

While there is little chance of Broad being recalled for the fourth and final Test, commencing here on Thursday, he remains an integral part of England’s Twenty20 side.

If the 26-year-old Broad fails to recover in time, England would also have to name a new captain for the slam-bang format with Eoin Morgan most likely to replace him.

Meanwhile, India have called uncapped batsman Ambati Rayudu into their T20 squad to replace the injured Manoj Tiwary.

Explosive batsman Tiwary suffered a side strain on domestic duty at the weekend and is set to spend six weeks out of action.

The two Twenty20 Internationals are scheduled to take place in Pune and Mumbai on Dec 20 and 22, respectively.

India also face arch-rivals Pakistan in two Twenty20 fixtures in Bangalore (Dec 25) and Ahmedabad (Dec 27).—Agencies
