KARACHI: The United Nations has appointed Ziauddin Yousufzai, the father of child activist Malala Yousufzai, as a special advisor for the UN on global education, DawnNews reported.

The announcement in this regard was made by for British premier and UN Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown.

Yousufzai would be expected to assist the United Nations for the purpose of getting every child to school by the end of 2015, news reports quoted an announcement as saying.

In a statement, Brown said Malala's father, Ziauddin Yousufzai, had not only been a headmaster at a girls’ school, his services for the cause of education had been significant. This is why, his appointment as special advisor would lead to positive results, the statement said.

Brown added that Malala's struggle and sacrifice for the cause of education was an example for those working for girls' education throughout the world.
