KABUL, Dec 6: Afghanistan’s intelligence chief was wounded in an assassination attempt by a fake Taliban peace envoy on Thursday, just months after he took office, as Kabul grapples with the impending departure of Nato combat troops.
Asadullah Khalid, who heads the National Directorate of Security (NDS), was the victim of a suicide attack by a visitor in a spy agency guesthouse in the upscale Kabul district of Taimani, security sources said.
The attacker was purportedly carrying a peace message on behalf of the Taliban when he detonated himself, NDS spokesman Shafiqullah Taheri said.—AFP
