ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza on Monday accepted the resignation of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Sabeen Rizvi pertaining to the dual nationality case, DawnNews reported.

Rizvi’s resignation has been sent to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for further action.

The ECP had set a deadline of Nov 30 for parliamentarians and MPAs to submit declarations on their dual nationality.

After the resignation of four MNAs and six MPAs, there are still at least six lawmakers who have yet to submit their affidavits.

MNAs Aziz Sheikh of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Dr Donya Aziz of Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) had argued before the EC that they didn’t acquire foreign citizenship, but were born there.

Therefore, in total the EC now has to deal with six lawmakers who have so far kept silent about their dual nationality.

They are: Maulana Mohammad Qasim of Muttahida Mahaz Asatiza Pakistan (MMAP), Syed Allauddin and Chaudhry Tassadduq Masud Khan of PPP, Sabeen Rizvi and Dr Araish Kumar of PML-N and Senator Malik Salahuddin Dogar of PPP.

Not a single lawmaker willing to give up the dual nationality and resign from their adopted countries. Instead resigning from Pakistan Parliament shows you the real love and commitment toward the people, the constitution and the oath they took to serve the people.

people trying to defraud the public by not admitting their dual nationality should be fined and jailed. They should also be banned from any future public office for a minimum of 25 years.

there are far more then the few above mentioned names. Look at each of them ,get their travel history and if they can't provide valid visas on Pakistani passports throw them out.BTW the current government is so corrupt that when they feel like the minister is about to get caught, he/she resigns and is made a "musheer". Open corruption season in Pakistan.

It would interesting to know how many elected representatives actually give / gave up their dual nationalities. On another note, If I am reading this situation correctly, we just had 6 elected representatives give up their positions in favor of retaining nationalities of other countries. Would I be wrong to think that they value that more than their own in which case shouldn't all their decisions while in power be reviewed for vested interests. Would it be fair then to suggest that all elected representatives or representatives standing up for elections should not be allowed to pursue other nationalities?

Why SC and ECP came into action so late ? Why constitution was rebuffed for so long by allowing dual nationals to complete their tenure ? All the legislation brought by these perpetrators are unconstitutional, given the fact they held their offices unconstitutionally.
