He said that a balanced diet, containing iron, could save the people from anaemia.

The organizer of the seminar, Dr Anwar Abro, Prof Dr Awais Shaikh, the representatives of the American Quarters’ Social Welfare Organization and a number of doctors spoke on the occasion.

WASA: Wasa managing director has said that the quantity of water supply to the city has been reduced by 50 per cent from Dec 26, 2002, because of the annual closure of canals of the Kotri Barrage .

He was, in a statement, responding to criticism about water shortage in the city by different circles .

He said that water was being supplied to people from the ponds of Wasa on Jamshoro Road, Hala Naka and Paretabad.

He, however, said that due to the intervention of the district Nazim, Hyderabad, the irrigation authorities had closed the gates of the Kotri barrage from Jan 6 instead of 10, with the result that water had been stored in sufficient quantity at the pumping stations of Hala Naka and water lagoons along Jamshoro Road.

The MD, Wasa, said that normal pumping from the water works had resumed from midnight of Jan 7 without any interruption.
