KOHAT, Nov 29: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Mohammad Hamayun on Thursday announced Rs124 million grant for Cadet College Kohat during its parents day function.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government wanted to provide equal educational opportunities to all areas of the province and students should avail of facilities at the institutions.

The function was also attended by general officer commanding, Kohat, and chairman board of governors of the college Maj. Gen. Nazeer Ahmed Butt, parents and officials.

The minister, who is also ex-cadet of the institution, said that the environment of the college, modern digital language laboratory and library were producing highly educated students.

He said that former students of the college were serving the country as doctors, engineers and in armed forces.

He said that the provincial government had started a ‘Naway Sahar Laptop Scheme’ which provided computers and cash prizes to distinction-holder students of all boards in the province.

He said that initiatives of the government to provide educational facilities would help in elimination of extremism from the society.

Later, he announced separate grants of Rs30 million for 2012-2013 and Rs94 million for construction of a new hostel and renovation of old ones.

The minister awarded Rs100,000 each under Niagra Sixers Award of Excellence for 2012 to cadet Tasneem Anjum and cadet Omer Farooq. This programme to award the students had been started by ex-students of sixth entry of the college.

He also awarded trophies to 60 cadets who had excelled in various fields.

He watched gymnastics, show jumping, commando squad and parade of the students and praised their potential and skills.

Earlier, the college principal, Brig (retired) Inamul Haq, highlighted achievements of the students in educational and extra-curricular activities.
