ATTOCK, Nov 27:  Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) has formed a 25 -member District Election Commission (DEC) to conduct intra-party elections at 72 union councils (UCs),  six tehsils and a district council of Attock. The elections are expected to take place in the month of December.

PTI leader Qazi Ahmed Akbar, while talking to Dawn said that the party had setup a 25 member DEC, under the chairmanship of Rafique Niazi to conduct the elections in a fair and transparent manner.

Mr Qazi — aspirant for provincial assembly seat PP-16, Attock-II — further said the DEC would soon announce a schedule for intra-party elections, besides issuance of electoral list.

In the first phase, party elections would be held at all the 72 UCs of the district and then UC members would elect the tehsil council members of the all six tehsils of the district, including Attock, Fatehjang, Hassanabdal, Jand, Hazro and Pindigheb. After that elections for the party organisation, including district president and general secretary would be held.

The election process would be completed within 15-days and the newly elected party leadership would assume their respective offices in the first week of January, 2013.

On query, Qazi said that nearly 80,000 PTI members would exercise their right to vote and elect 1,062 party leaders.

Replying to another question, he said that Rs5,000 as election fee would be charged from the aspirants of the office of district president and general secretary and Rs2,000 for other slots of the district council.
