LAHORE, Nov 21: The investigation police arrested two accused involved in murder and kidnap cases within 24 hours after their escape from the Nawankot police custody.

Police re-arrested one escapee from Thokar and the other from Arifwala.

Earlier, police authorities had suspended from service the Nawankot station house officer and got arrested three other policemen after the escape of the two accused.

Reports said Mohsin Ali of New Mozang was arrested in the murder case of a lawyer while Zeeshan of Jhugian Nagra was arrested in an abduction case of a girl. Both the accused managed to escape late on Tuesday night while the Nawankot police came to know about the incident early on Wednesday. Senior police officials investigated the matter and suspended Nawankot SHO Saeed Anwar for negligence.

They also lodged a case against constables Liaquat and Nasir and Muharrar Mushtaq and got them arrested.

Investigation DIG Chaudhry Shafiq had constituted separate police teams for the arrest of the escapees and directed Iqbal Town Investigation SP to ensure instructions in this regard.

Lahore CCPO Aslam Tareen announced cash rewards and commendation certificates for police officials for arresting suspects within 24 hours.

SHOT DEAD: Model Town police lodged a case on Wednesday against a couple for allegedly killing his man over a money dispute.

A police official said suspect Usman, a resident of Valencia Town, shot dead Saeed Ahmad, 45, of Rawalpindi on Wednesday in Model Town and alerted the police claiming that robbers had killed his friend after looting cash from him.

The police called Saeed’s wife who reached the police station and expressed her doubt over the killing of her husband by robbers.

She said Usman had borrowed money from her husband and was reluctant to return the same.

The police re-launched investigation and finally managed to resolve the mystery, the official said.

Quoting initial investigation, he said Usman with the connivance of his wife took his friend to a deserted road in D-Block where he shot him dead. — Staff Reporter
