QUETTA, Nov 19: The parliamentary groups of the political parties in the Balochistan coalition government have resolved to ensure implementation of Supreme Court’s orders relating to the province.
A meeting of the coalition partners held in Islamabad on Monday with Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani in the chair decided to form a committee to monitor the steps being taken to implement the SC orders. The chief minister will head the committee.
The meeting expressed displeasure over the perception that funds for development projects in the province had been misappropriated and decided to ask the auditor-general to conduct an audit of the projects.
Sources said the meeting discussed the interim order of the apex court on the status of the Balochistan government with senior lawyers and the provincial advocate-general and the law secretary and formulated the stance of the Balochistan government to be presented in the court.
The government’s legal team, including advocates Shahid Hamid and Khawaja Haris, briefed the meeting on the constitutional and legal aspects of the case being heard by the court and relating to law and order situation in the province and funds for the Public Sector Development Programme 2012-13
A senior official told Dawn that there was a consensus at the meeting that the provincial government respected the court verdict and would ensure its implementation in letter and spirit.
The meeting was informed that efforts were being made to maintain law and order situation in the province and ensure that the constitution and law were upheld.
The committee, formed by the meeting, includes provincial Home Minister Mir Zafarullah Zehri, Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Mohammad, Home Secretary Capt (Retd) Akbar Hussain Durrani, IG of Frontier Corps Maj-Gen Obaidullah Khattak and IG police of Balochistan Tariq Omar Khattab.
The first meeting of the committee will be held on Nov 26 and it will meet every Monday. The meeting was also attended by the chief secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Planning and Development) Mohammad Aslam Shakir, Law Secretary Safdar Hussain and Advocate-General Amanullah Kanrani.
