RAWALPINDI, Nov 13: A head constable working with the Hangu police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was abducted from his residence in Sadiqabad here on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.

Sultana Bibi, a native of Hangu, complained to the police that she lived with her son Matiullah in a rented house at Khuram Colony. “At around 7.30pm on Monday, some unidentified persons came to our house in a double-cabin vehicle and forcibly took away my son,” she added.

She said her son was beaten up by the men, some of whom were carrying guns. The identity of the men and the motive for the kidnapping are yet to be ascertained.

When the station house officer, Tahir Abbas Kazmi, was contacted by Dawn, he said a kidnapping case had been registered on the complaint of the woman and the investigation launched.

He added: “It would be too early to say whether it is a ‘missing person’ case or the outcome of an enmity. The motive behind the kidnapping will be known only after the investigation is completed.”

He said the possibility of an old enmity cannot be ruled out as the family was from Hangu.

It may be noted that Syed Tanveer Hussain, 25, also a resident of Hangu, was kidnapped by militants from Simly Dam on October 21. He returned to his Dhoke Paracha house about three weeks later after paying a Rs2 ransom to the Taliban.

A majority of people in the areas hit hard by sectarian violence in Hangu and Kurram Agency have taken refuge in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. But they are still being haunted by the extremists.
