KHAR, Nov 11: The tribal elders of Nawagai tehsil in Bajaur Agency on Sunday assured the administration and security forces of their full support to check infiltration of militants into the region from across the border.

In this connection a jirga was held at Zoor Bandar area of Nawagi subdivision that was attended by officials of local administration and security forces and tribal elders.

Elders of various sub-tribes, members of peace committees, leaders of qaumi lashkar and religious figures of the area participated in the jirga. Commandant Bajaur Scouts Col Shakeel Janjua, Assistant Political Agent Tariq Khan and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.

Several issues besides law and order situation and rehabilitation process in the area were discussed in the jirga that was summand by the local administration.

Addressing the jirga, Col Shakeel said that peace and writ of government in the region had been restored with efforts of security forces and tribal elders. He said that restoration of peace and writ of government in the region was responsibility of security forces that fulfilled their duty with honesty. He said that maintenance of peace in the area was also responsibility of local people.

“This is fact that restoration of peace was a difficult task. Now main thing is to maintain it because some elements, who are enemies of peace in the area, are trying to disrupt peace in the region,” Col Shakeel added.

He urged tribal elders to keep watch on activities of militants in the region and speedup their efforts for preventing cross-border attacks by militants in the border area of the region.

Col Shakeel also praised Nawagai tribesmen for rendering sacrifices for restoration of peace in the area.

Tribal elders Malki Toor Khan, Malik Mansab Khan, Malik Hazrat Khan, Malik Abdur Rahim and Malik Gul Wali assured the administration and security forces of their full support in maintenance of law and order in the region.

They said that tribesmen of Nawagai were fully alert to counter cross-border attacks.
