KARACHI: Former Test captain Mohammad Yousuf has been barred by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from participating in the ongoing President's Trophy as a result of which he will not be able to prove his fitness and form to be eligible for the national team.
The rules of the President's Trophy dictate that only the players who have been included in the squad prior to the start of the tournament will be allowed to play.
Yousuf, who turned down offers from several departmental teams due to personal reasons, was recently offered a slot by Port Qasim Authority to play in the President's Trophy. However, the PCB has turned down the special request made by PQA to allow the 38-year old to play.
The batsman has been sidelined by selectors since November 2010 and must make a comeback in the domestic circuit to be considered for the national team once again.
Yousuf lamented the fact that the PCB wanted him to prove his fitness but was not allowing him to play in the domestic circuit.
“On one hand, the PCB tells me to prove form and fitness in the domestic circuit, but on the other hand, does not allow me to do so," said Yousuf while talking to the media.
"Since 2010 I have not been representing any domestic team, this time around the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) offered me a slot which I readily accepted.”
Former captain Rashid Latif also expressed disappointment at the PCB's attitude.
“I sent a letter to (Javed) Miandad on October 30, and in any event, the PCB should have at least replied. This is not the way to treat a legendry player like Muhammad Yousuf,” said Latif.

muhammad yousaf is a great player thats why PCB must be given him chance to play in domestic cricket.Every institution has failed to perform well.The only happiness for the public is sport which also reuined by PCB.It is our public demand that yousaf must be given a chance for come back.And PCB should stop his favouritism like imran farahat.

What is the problem if he plays? In Australia, age doesn't matter. Form matters. Pakistan should give more emphasize on form, not in fame or age. I wonder how Afridi goes on playing matches after matches without form! Misbah and Younis Khan aren't even in good form. If Mohammad Yousuf proves eligible then include him in the team. Think forward.

Why PCB is treating him so badly. Is it the lack of his cricketing form or his conversion. I think the bosses at PCB do not want a practicing and bearded Muhammad Yousaf in the team and fear that he might bring the team closer to the religion the way Inzamam did. I think this guy is a gentleman and should be provided a chance to earn his livelihood by playing in the domestic tournaments.

PCB is runned by hypocrites and traitors so how any justice can be expected by Mohammad Yousaf. Our cricket board is good at dumping and destorying great performers. Playing domestic cricket is natural right of Mohammad Yousaf. He has done alot for Pakistan: played match winning innings, rescued team from crisis and strong back bone of batting line up. He deserves another chance to play in domestic cricket and prove his worth wether suitable to play for national team or not. If he is performing well in domestic cricket then he should be immediately selected and if not then axed. Its unfair to humiliate one of our world class player.

no doubt about the batting genius of Muhammad Yousaf and he stands shoulder to shoulder with likes of Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Inzimam ul Haq and many others when it comes to class in his act!
but give us a break, 38 years old, honestly speaking, how long would he be able to 'serve' the country even if he makes a come back? 1 more year or at most 2 more years? why not spare the slot to find another 'Muhammad Yousaf' who is sitting on the benches and praying that Yousaf is not able to pull some rabbit out of hat and claim the spot...
he should diversify his career to imparting his brilliance to the new generation of batsmen i.e. coaching, For me this is the only logical mechanism to prolong his career and ensure that his batting genius doesn't simple fade away in the history, rather the legacy continues and fans get a taste of M. Yousaf even when he is not himself holding the bat in the playing 11. I'm sure nobody wants him to be back, suffer the grill at the hands of new generation of bowlers and then a forced shameful retirement is the only thing on the wall (alas! but this is what has been true but, for most of the greats of Paksitan except Imran Khan!)

Shame on PCB for ignoring professional cricketers like M Yuosuf but keeping th corrupt Malik and Akmal brothers becuse of the share of corruption they receive from these boys. Yousuf will not get bribes so he can't give any to management. Amar from Australia

Agree with Umair. On the other hand Yousuf should show full committment in the game and not bring in POLITICS by starting TABLEEG within the team during important matches like the legendry iNZAMAM.
Pakistan has still not recovered by he damage done by Inzamam, he did not leave any VICE CAPTAINS, nor YOUNG TALENTED CRICKETERS on the bench. So Sad.

This guy is one of the main reasons of the dirty politics in the cricket team. Imran khan once said that yusuf did not have character to represent team. He does not have any character ,period.The team should have been cleaned up of scum kike him if there is any hope for the talent that is latent in Pakistan , to show itself.

Dirty politics of PCB these they should be ashamed of themselves. Pakistan batting is suffering and Mohammad Yousuf is a excellent choice to stabilize the team batting. He can bat for another s 2~3 years and can help the youngster due to his experience. Let him play he is assets and we should not waste him due to politics of PCB.

PCB PCB PCB ... Wonder why does this institute exists in the first place. I've never seen it taking a wise decision in all these years. The only thing it does is waste talent by its illogical policies. No established Paki player has ever praised it. It sounds more like Problem Cricket Board rather than Pakistan Cricket Board. We need to revamp it before it totally ruins this sports for us.

i dont feel m yousuf could make a comeback but atleast pcb must give him a chance in domestic so that he would try to show his fitness and i think pcb should nt be so personal in this matter he is a legendry player and its his rite to play for country as long as he is in form and fittness

Yousuf should not have been dropped in the first place. Don't think he can make a comeback at this age. Very sad to see his career end prematurely. His batting was a pure delight to watch.
