PESHAWAR, Jan 4: The provincial government has released half quota of the octroi share of the city district government on the request of District Nazim Azam Khan Afridi.

Mr Afridi thanked the finance secretary, Ziaur Rehman, for resolving the problem of the district government.

A meeting of the representatives of the district government and Wapda was held at provincial finance department, which was presided over by the finance secretary.

The Nazim said that the city district government and towns were facing financial problems after the termination of its share in octroi collection by the finance department.

Mr Afridi told the meeting that the Wapda had deducted the outstanding arrears against the district government under the head of electricity bills from the provincial government upon which the finance department had decided to withheld the octroi share.

Owing to the move the district government was facing financial problems, he added. The representatives of district government were of the view that octroi share should not be linked with the payment of Wapda bills. Mr Rehman directed the representatives of Wapda and district government to resolve the issues within 10 days.—APP
