GUJRAT, Jan 3: A former woman councillor of the PPP, who had informed on her son’s murderers, was shot dead by some unidentified men at Mehmudkey Wand in Shadiwal, Kunjah, on Friday.

Irshad Begum was passing through a street adjacent to Jamia Mosque when the assailants opened fire on her and escaped. She sustained multiple injuries and died on her way to hospital.

Police sent the body to mortuary for autopsy.

The case had not been registered till the filling of this report.

Shadiwal police claimed that Ms Irshad’s son Faisal had been shot dead over a minor dispute a year ago. Kunjah police had registered the FIR of Faisal’s murder against Arshad, Afzal and others on the complaint of Ms Irshad. Some of the accused, including Afzal, had been arrested and others, including Arshad, declared proclaimed offenders.

The accused had been pressurizing the slain councillor into withdrawing the case against them. However, the slain woman did not succumb to the pressure and got the Supreme Court cancel the bail granted to the accused by the LHC.

The decision in Faisal’s murder case was expected within a couple of weeks.
