RAWALPINDI, Oct 24: Police on Wednesday night found a decomposing body of a woman who had been strangled by her husband three days ago and hidden under heaps of quilts in her house in Tulsa village.

The women’s husband and killer, Irfan, 37, was arrested by the police on suspicion after they were informed of a smell emanating from his house.

During interrogation, Irfan, who worked as a driver, confessed to having murdered his wife, Rubina, who belonged to Dhoke Matkal. He had married her a year ago.

The confession led to the recovery of his wife’s body from the house, which had been buried under quilts and blankets.

Police inspector Raja Shakeel, who was leading investigations into the case, said the murder came to light when villagers informed the police of an odour coming from the house. As a result the police took Irfan into custody. During interrogation, he revealed that he had murdered his wife three days ago on suspicion of having illicit affairs.

The investigating officer said the postmortem reports would determine whether the deceased was pregnant. In the meantime, the body was shifted to the hospital.

Police sources said people from the neighbourhood often saw Irfan quarrelling with his wife over domestic issues.(Name of the victim and accused changed to hide their identities)
