LAHORE, Oct 22: A meeting of the PML-N elders was held here on Monday under the chair of party chief Nawaz Sharif to discuss the impact of the Supreme Court verdict in the Asghar Khan case and formulate a strategy to cope with the situation.

Although no details were given about the outcome of the sitting, sources said the apex court might be moved to reconsider a part of its decision regarding tasking the FIA to probe recipients of the ISI funds.

The participants also discussed the ‘media trial’ of their leadership as no one was mentioning the names of three Tehrik-i-Insaaf leaders -- Javed Hashmi, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali -- who had also allegedly received the money.

PML-N information secretary Mushahidullah Khan said the issue was being propagated out of proportion to eclipse corruption worth billions of rupees of PPP and PML-Q leaders.

Meanwhile, talking to a delegation of PML-N office-bearers and workers from Okara and as well as representatives of tenants of Renala Khurd Military Farms here on Monday, Nawaz Sharif hoped the people would not be influenced by ‘false propaganda’ against the party and its leadership.

He said the people must have firm faith that tomorrow belonged only to the PML-N, which would spare no effort for their progress and prosperity.

He hoped the masses would not be swayed by the ‘false’ and ‘negative’ propaganda against the party.

Nawaz said he had his sympathies with the tenants and called upon the farms administration to provide them maximum help.

He promised to ask Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for playing a role in the matter on behalf of the Punjab government.

He urged the PML-N leaders to be prepared for the next general elections by solving the masses’ problems.

The tenants informed the former prime minister about the cruelties and highhandedness they had to face during Musharraf regime.

They said the provincial government gave them proprietary rights of 5,500 houses at Kalyana Estate, Okara, and demanded they should also be extended the same facility at Renala Khurd military farms.

Okara PML-N leaders presented a detailed report on party’s organisational matters and preparations for forthcoming elections in the district.

Chaudhry Mumtaz, brother of late MPA Chaudhry Irshad, announced joining the party on the occasion.

Those who called on the party chief included Brig Zahid Hasan (retired), Syed Zahid Gilani, Syed Ashiq Kirmani and Rao Zaigham Mujtaba.
