KARACHI, Oct 15: A policeman was shot dead in Gulshan-i-Ghazi in Baldia Town on Monday, police said.
Constable Mohammad Jameel was the 66th policeman to fall victim to the targeted killing during the current year.
The police said that gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on 41-year-old constable, who was standing outside his home near the terminal of route G-7 minibus, and rode away. He died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
Mochko SHO Imtiaz Jat said that the victim was posted at the west security zone.
He was father of three and originally hailed from Chichawatni.
The area SHO suspected that the killing was carried out for some personal motives.
‘Encounter’
A suspected gangster was killed in a police encounter in Shanti Nagar on Monday, police said.
They said that two armed men stanched a motorbike near Hassan Square and a police patrol started chasing them when they were trying to escape on the two-wheeler.
The armed men fired at the police near a government school. The law-enforcers returned fire and killed one of them.
However, the second suspect managed to escape but he was caught by the Sharea Faisal police. The held suspect was identified as Habibullah and a pistol was recovered from his possession.
The deceased was identified as Sattar Brohi, the police said, adding that both the men were associates of the Arshad Pappu gang.
