NAWABSHAH, Dec 31: Sugarcane growers have announced that the sugarcane supply would be stopped from Jan 1 to 5 as all three sugar mills — the Habib Sugar Mills, the Al-Noor Sugar Mills, and the Sakrand Sugar Mills — were not ready to pay Rs43 for 40kg of sugarcane price as fixed by the government and were also not interested in paying quality premium.

They announced this at a meeting of the sugarcane growers of Nawabshah district, which was held at the residence of Syed Noor Ahmed Shah, here on Tuesday.

They appealed to all the growers to get united and stop supplying sugarcane.

They appealed to transporters not to supply vehicles for transportation of sugarcane.

Several committees had been formed to ensure stoppage of the cane supply to mills.

It was decided that the talks would continue with the management of the sugar mills.

When this correspondent contacted the general manager, Habib Sugar Mills, Mohammad Yousuf, he said that it was still offering only Rs36 per 40kg, and added that the mills was not in a position to pay Rs43 per 40kg, which the government had asked.

The meeting was attended by the district president, Sindh Abadgar Board, Syed Zain Shah, and Sher Mohammad Rind among others.

TWO KILLED: Two men were killed by five armed men in the Mari village, near Aliabad, on Wednesday.

Umeed Ali Paryo and M. Zardari were killed by M. Sehto, Mumtaz, Abdul Karim, Urs and M. Juman Sehto when they came out of their Autaq.
