RAWALPINDI, Oct 2: In the prevailing security situation, the Pakistan Railways Police deployed bomb disposal experts – trained by US experts – equipped with metal and mine detectors at the Rawalpindi Railway Station.

Pakistan Railway’s bomb disposal unit, trained by US experts in Islamabad have been equipped with American bomb disposal suits, guns and other tools to avert any terror threat.

Syed Ibn-e-Hassan, the inspector general of police (IGP) Railway, Junaid Qureshi manager Railway, along with other senior officers visited the railway station and reviewed the security arrangements in the light of the prevailing security situation.

Javaid Iqbal, a senior police officer of Pakistan Railway Police revealed that the bomb detectors have been deployed at the entry gates of the Railway station.

He said the security had been strengthened at the Railway station to ensure the safety of passengers.

The training of security personnel have also been intensified as preparations are underway to select another batch of police to send them to Islamabad to get training from US experts.

“The US bomb disposal suit is very expensive as it can diffuse high intensity explosive devices,” a bomb disposal expert said and added that the railway authorities used to call the bomb disposal experts from the Civil Defence but now an independent bomb disposal unit of Railway has been formed.

During his visit, the IGP Railways appreciated the bomb disposal unit and their training methods.

Later the IGP Railway visited the Railway station and expressed his satisfaction over the security arrangement.
