INDUSTRIAL production and employment in Sindh declined over 11 months ending May 2012 compared to the same period in 2011, according to the monthly survey carried out by the provincial Bureau of Statistics.

The survey covers 31 selected large-scale industries comprising 598 industries and 98 manufactured items.

These industries account for nearly 69 per cent of the total value added in terms of production recorded in the 1980-81 Census of Manufacturing Industries.

Industrial production was down by 7.37 per cent in May from April output though up by 7.73 per cent from May 2011; cumulative production in July-May 2011-12 decreased by 0.42 per cent from the same period of previous year.

Employment in May was 0.39 per cent lower as against April, up by 0.26 against May 2011 and 1.26 per cent lower during July 2011-12 as against May 2010-11.
