KARACHI, Sept 26: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement withdrew on Wednesday the ultimatum it gave to Pakistan People’s Party on Sept 24, to quit the ruling coalition if its ‘legitimate demands’ were not met within three days.

The decision came after President Asif Ali Zardari assured MQM chief Altaf Hussain that all issues agreed upon between the MQM and PPP would be implemented soon.

According to an MQM press release, President Zardari telephoned Mr Hussain on Tuesday evening and ‘regretted that the issues agreed upon between the two parties could not be implemented because of his pressing engagements’.

It said that the president told the MQM chief that he had already directed the Sindh government to implement the agreed issues immediately and assured him that he would soon intervene to solve all issues through mutual understanding.

Mr Hussain, the statement said, thanked Mr Zardari and praised him for his courageous speech at the United Nations.

The Muttahida chief asked the coordination committee to withdraw its ultimatum. Later, an MQM spokesman said the committee withdrew the ultimatum.
