SUKKUR, Dec 28: A division bench of the Sindh High Court on Saturday dismissed an appeal against the death sentence awarded by the anti-terrorism court on July 30, 2001.

The division bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Nabi Soomro and Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro, dismissed the appeals filed by accused Ghulam Rasool, Ghulam Nabi and Karam Ali (all Narejos by caste).

They had been condemned to death by the anti-terrorism court for killing four policemen and injuring six other during an encounter in the jurisdiction of the Ahmedpur police station on July 1, 1999.

Police constables Habibullah Shar, Ghulam Nabi Shar, Umerdin and Mumtaz were killed while ASI Abdul Qadir, police constable Ather Ali, and TCs Mohammad Paryal, Allah Dino Lanjwani, Mst Waheedan and a boy, Hafiz Ahmed, were injured in the incident.

The three appellants were arrested by the police and were consequently sent to stand trial.

The trial court had awarded them death penalty after which the accused had approached the high court bench.

The high curt bench had also upheld the judgment of the lower court and dismissed the appeals filed by th three accused on Dec 12.
