KARACHI, Dec 28: The City Council in its Saturday’s session called for the restoration of union activities in the University of Karachi and other educational institutions of the city. It also demanded adequate compensation for the fishermen who had drowned off Ibrahim Hyderi recently.

The council passed a unanimous resolution calling for the restoration of student unions in Karachi University and other educational institutions in the city. The resolution presented by Qazi Sadruddin and Abdul Aziz also demanded the removal of rangers from various institutes in the city, including schools, colleges and Karachi University.

The resolution further said that elections for the unions should be held as it would promote co-curricular activities among the students.

Though the resolution was approved unanimously, presiding officer Muslim Pervaiz sent it to the law department for a review.

The House through another resolution, moved by Razzaq Siddique, demanding compensation of Rs200,000 for each of the deceased fishermen, who had drowned recently off Ibrahim Hyderi, was also approved unanimously.

The resolution also criticized the meteorological department for not releasing a warning of the impending storm so that the fishermen would not have gone to deep sea.

The house condemned the terrorist attack on a church in Daska that killed three girls while they were attending a service.

The resolution, presented by Yousaf Gill, Ishaq Inayat, and seconded by Anwar Lal Din and Bashir Alam, called for early arrest of and stern action against the culprits.
