At the turn of the century Cuban cigar factories hired Leeradores (Readers) to sit at the front of the cigar makers' benches and read them classic literature like: The Three Musketeers, Man in the Iron Mask, Tale of Two Cities, Robin Crusoe, Don Quixote and Treasure Island before there was radio.
It was a good job, and it paid well. The workers were satisfied.
Cigar wrapping is still a good trade in Cuba and Florida. Once you learn to make cigars it is employment for life.
