KARACHI, Sept 11: A policeman was killed within the remit of the Pirabad police station on Tuesday night.

Earlier on Monday a constable died in hospital after he had been shot at Hasan Square late on Sunday night.

So far 60 policemen have been gunned down in the city this year.

“Police constable Mohammad Nawaz, 30, was reportedly riding his motorcycle to work when gunmen, also on a two-wheeler, followed him and shot him near Madina Masjid in Sector 4, Pirabad,” Pirabad police station SHO Ashfaq Baloch said.

“A single bullet hit him in the head, causing his instant death.”

The victim was a resident of Orangi Town, posted at the Pirabad police station, the police said. Following the incident, the police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.

Young man shot dead

A young man was killed and his elder brother was wounded when assailants targeted them within the remit of the Sachal police station on Tuesday.

Police said the incident occurred near Sikandar Goth, where the two brothers — Salahuddin, 35 and Sirajuddin, 48 — were going home from work when two unknown suspects riding a motorcycle fired handgun shots at them and rode away.

Both men were being taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but Salahuddin died on the way to the hospital.

Sachal police station SHO Azhar Ali said that both brothers worked at a reti-bajri stand.

Police said the victim’s nephew Atta Mohammad was an area office-bearer of the Awami National Party, but family members said they had a running family feud.

The victim had two children, the police said.

Middle-aged man shot dead

In another incident, a middle-aged man was gunned down by unknown persons in Kunwari Colony on Tuesday.

Police said the incident took place within the remit of the Pirabad police station, where Abdul Ghafoor, 45, was shot at.

The victim was taken to ASH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He had suffered a gunshot wound in the head.

“It was not clear if the suspects were mobile or on foot as there was no eyewitness to the incident,” said an area police officer. “The victim’s son was killed in a similar manner a few months back.”

He hailed from Kabul, the police said, adding that personal enmity was a likely motive for the murder.
