QUETTA, Sept 7: Superintendent of Police (investigation) Jamil Ahmed Kakar was shot dead near his residence in Killi Gul Muhammad area of the city on Friday.

According to police sources, armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on him when he was going to drop his daughter at a college.

Mr Kakar received two bullets in the head and died on the spot.

A passer-by was injured in the attack. His daughter, who was sitting on the back seat of the official vehicle, remained unhurt.

The man injured was identified as Abdul Ghafoor.

A spokesman for the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Abu Bakar Siddique, calling a private news channel, claimed that the LJ was behind the killing of the police official.

Capital City Police Officer Mir Zubair Mehmood, along with senior law-enforcement officials, visited the place.

The sources said Mr Kakar used to travel in the official vehicle without guards.
